A screenshot circulated across several University of Ibadan WhatsApp groups on Friday, June 19, 2026, claiming that the missing Scripture Union Campus Fellowship officials, alongside the kidnapped UI student, had regained their freedom.
The message read:
“The news reaching us is that the kidnapped S.U. ministers have regained their freedom. Nothing missing, nothing broken. Hallelujah.”
IndyPress examined the claim to determine whether the kidnapped student and other affected fellowship officials had indeed been released.
Verification
Findings by IndyPress show that there has been no official statement confirming the release of the kidnapped student or the other missing fellowship officials.
The latest publicly available update on the incident was issued by the Students’ Union on Friday. According to the statement, the University Management has continued to liaise with the appropriate security agencies regarding the case.
