Without the ratification of the University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council, the University Management has constituted the Students’ Union Electoral Commission for the 2025/2026 academic session.
This was disclosed in a broadcast message signed by the acclaimed Publicity Chairman of the commission, Ogundimi Tobiloba Timothy, on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
“The Student Union Electoral Commission, alongside dedicated University Management officials, met today, September 10, 2026, at the Infinix UI Resource Centre to begin putting the necessary plans and structures in place for the upcoming elections,” Timothy said.
Recall that the formation of the Electoral Commission follows various reports highlighting delays in the commencement of the UI SU elections for over eight weeks, despite the Union Constitution mandating the electoral season to commence within 30 days after the start of every academic session.
It is worth noting that the newly appointed members of the electoral commission have yet to be screened by the UI 13th Assembly, the policy-making organ of the Union.
