The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Oyo State Axis, has called for an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction of prospective corps members travelling through Imo State and announced a peaceful and lawful protest in Oyo State.
This development was disclosed in an official release signed by the Chairman, NANS JCC Oyo State, Abdulazeez Uthman Olawale, on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Recall that NANS JCC Oyo had earlier released a 7-point demand, urging concerned parties to investigate the matter and establish a communication channel with the victim’s family.
According to the group, information available to its leadership indicates that the two buses made an unusual stop at the location where the attack subsequently occurred, reportedly on the claim that the drivers needed to give money to an individual across the road.
“We are particularly disturbed by credible information reaching the leadership of NANS JCC Oyo State concerning the circumstances surrounding the incident. Information available to us indicates that two drivers, identified as Sunday and Jeremiah, were reportedly driving the two buses conveying the affected prospective corps members.” NANS JCC Oyo wrote.
“We have also received information alleging that the vehicles made an unusual stop at the location where the attack subsequently occurred, reportedly on the claim that the drivers needed to give money to an individual across the road.”
Reiterating it stands on the issue, NANS JCC has called for an immediate, transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the two buses stopped at the particular location, who authorised or requested the stop, and the identity of the person or persons the drivers allegedly intended to meet.
It further demanded the transportation company to immediately address the public and, most importantly, the families of the affected prospective corps members.
As part of its advocacy action, the student body has announced an advocacy walk at the transportation company’s Samonda, Ibadan branch on Tuesday, October 6, 2026,
“If the transportation company continues to fail to provide satisfactory answers, NANS JCC Oyo State will commence peaceful and lawful student mobilization at its Samonda, Ibadan branch on TUESDAY, 6TH OCTOBER, 2026, in accordance with applicable law and with the safety of students and the public as a priority.”
NANS JCC Oyo State has also urged Nigerian students, civil society organisations, parents, alumni and other stakeholders concerned about the safety of young Nigerians to support the cause.
It, however, called on students participating in the mobilisation to remain peaceful, disciplined and law-abiding.
“No student should engage in violence, destruction of property, confrontation with workers or actions that could endanger innocent persons,” it added.
