Six Months After, Outstanding Indy Hall T-Shirts Remain Undistributed

By IndyPress News Desk

More than six months after the former Great Independence Hall administration led by Adedeji Peculiar promised the distribution of hall packages, some Katangites are yet to receive their branded hall T-shirts despite paying for the merchandise during the 2024/2025 accommodation process.

Customary across UI halls of residence, students have the option to pay for the branded hall T-shirts while paying their hall dues.

While some residents have received their items, others are still waiting for their T-shirts as the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic session draws to a close.

More than three months into the new administration under  Administrator General Obinelo Chisom Folorunsho no fresh distribution timeline has been officially communicated to affected residents.

Recall that IndyPress had earlier reported concerns over the prolonged delay in the distribution of the hall packages, with affected students expressing frustration over the lack of communication regarding the outstanding merchandise.

Speaking during an Indy Hall Legislative Sitting, the Administrator General, Obinelo Chisom Folorunsho, disclosed that former Administrator General Peculiar Adedeji had informed him that he was yet to receive his University clearance, a requirement for his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation, but had assured him that all outstanding package records would be forwarded before his departure.

Despite the promises, as of the time of filing this report some residents are yet to get their branded hall T-shirts, as that little or no communication has been made in regards to the distribution.

Speaking with IndyPress, Obinelo noted that the current administration has not received any new information regarding the outstanding T-shirts.

“At the moment, I have not received any further update regarding the Katanga package. As I mentioned during the last legislative sitting, the timeline communicated to us was based on the assurance given by AG Peculiar that it would be ready in June,” he said.

He added that no official communication has been received from the former Administrator General indicating a change to that timeline.

“I understand the concerns surrounding the delay, and I believe it is important that members are kept informed. Once an official update is communicated to us, it will be made available to the hall community through the appropriate channels,” he added.

Efforts by IndyPress to obtain comments from the Speaker of the 15th Indy Hall Assembly were unsuccessful, as messages sent had not been responded to as of press time.
