The Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, has commenced the renovation of its field, Maracana, IndyPress can report.

The Students’ Representative Council, University of Ibadan, is set to hold its fourth emergency sitting, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the SRC Chamber.

In an interview with IndyPress on June 10, 2025, the Administrator General of Indy Hall, Peculiar Adeniyi, explained that the hall was awaiting financial approval from the Students’ Division Affairs to implement the second phase of the installation project

The other beneficiaries include Lead City University, The Polytechnic Ibadan, School of Nursing & Midwifery, and Federal College of Animal Health Production.

The Union also called for the reinstatement of the suspended students and a reversal of the tuition fee hike.

Amnesty called for the immediate reversal of the suspension, while asserting the students’ right to a peaceful protest.

The group stated that the University’s disciplinary measures seem to be a strategy of intimidation and insisted that institutions should prioritize making education more accessible rather than punishing dissent.
